ODL NIC has strived to achieve a simplified northbound interface for SDN controllers using a domain specific language (DSL) that is extensible and easy to use. This presentation provides the status of the Beryllium release and discusses three unique features used and proposed for NIC.  First, the policy graph compiler introduced in NIC Be release resolves conflicts and the resulting composed graph synchronizes with the ODL MD-SAL structure, making it simpler to aggregate intents and avoid redundant compilation. This ensures non-conflicting policies are available across all the ODL existing southbound renderers.  Second, the Intent State Machine (ISM) is used to manage the state and lifecycle of the intent during deployment which provides to the user an easy way to track current status of the intent while abstracting details like intent composition and distribution. ISM has been proposed in the Be-release on NIC where this mechanism keeps track of the relation between edges on the graph and the original intents.  Finally, we introduce a novel support feature to NIC, the Label Management System (LMS), that enables automated mapping from intents specified using logical labels down to infrastructure specific attributes.  We show how the label namespace and hierarchy can be constructed in OpenStack, such that intent specifications can be created and exported to ODL NIC.
